Concrete Quarterly magazine was first published in 1947 and this year marks its 70th anniversary.
To celebrate, The Concrete Centre – current publishers of the magazine – have created an exhibition and season of events hosted at The Building Centre that reflect the magazine’s content, encompassing: inspiration, vision and design guidance for concrete in architecture, engineering and design.
70 years of Concrete Quarterly explores the social and architectural history of concrete architecture and engineering over the past 70 years, through a selection of images and editorial of iconic and interesting projects from the CQ archive. Each month the contemporary section of the exhibition will be replaced with a new topic of focus. These include samples related to innovative and clever forms of concrete and guidance on achieving visual concrete and concrete engineering.
The exhibition and its complimentary exhibition guide and magazine are located on the lower ground floor gallery of The Building Centre.
The Concrete Centre are also publishing a new book ‘The World Recast: 70 buildings from 70 years of Concrete Quarterly’ authored by Nick Jones. The book will be launched in the autumn and distributed globally by partnering publisher Artifice.
