An exhibition dedicated to the first Carbon Challenge site, Hanham Hall, near Bristol. In December 2007 the preferred developer was announced as Barratt Development Plc with HTA, Arup, Kingspan Offsite and Sovereign Housing Group. The exhibition will explore both this scheme and the four shortlisted bidders.
In conjunction with this exhibition, three invitation-only free workshops will provide a select audience with more in-depth knowledge about English Partnerships’ Carbon Challenge and more specifically, the first site at Hanham Hall, near Bristol - the UK’s first zero carbon new homes development. The Carbon Challenge was launched in 2007 by the Government to accelerate the housebuilding industry’s response to climate change by fast-tracking the creation of a number of zero carbon communities. The key objective is to raise the environmental performance of new communities while still delivering quality and high standards of design. Run by national regeneration agency English Partnerships on behalf of Communities and Local Government, the Challenge is a successor to the Design for Manufacture Competition, which successfully demonstrated how to build sustainable well-designed, affordable, quality homes.
