London’s Character: how do we retain heritage in a period of growth?

Conference
Tue 23 May 2017

Explore how London’s historic fabric is adapting to change - from individual buildings to major areas of regeneration. How is London’s character evolving? And how do we make the best use of London’s heritage assets for London’s growing population?

Examining the re-use and re-appropriation of the capital’s iconic historic assets, this conference will investigate how London’s heritage is feeding into its future. What opportunities do these structures offer to London’s ongoing development? Where is development appropriate, and how is it to be enabled? Are current policies supporting the right kind of development?

Speakers include:

- Emily Gee, London planning director at Historic England

- Tanvir Hasan, director of Donald Insall Associates

- Louise Mansfield, director of Allies and Morrison Urban Practitioners

- Rob Partridge, director of AKT II

- David Twohig, chief development officer at Battersea Power Station Development Company

- Debbie Whitfield, deputy chair of New London Architecture (Chair)
