In-conversation with Andy Gent: stop-motion animation and activism

Event
Tue 21 Sep 2021, 6pm - 8.30pm
V&A Museum
Part of Shaping Space

Join us at the V&A Museum with renowned puppet maker Andy Gent of Arch Model Studio, who will discuss the creative process and technical skill of creating models for stop-motion animation.

Gent was the creator behind Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride (2005), Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs (2018) and The French Dispatch (2021). He will share with us one of his recent projects, Save Ralph (2021), a film campaigning against animal-testing in the cosmetics industry. Starring Taika Waititi as Ralph, a tester rabbit, the short film was commissioned by the Humane Society International as part of its global campaign to outlaw cosmetic animal testing once and for all.

This talk and accompanying display of two models from Save Ralph are part of the V&A’s London Design Festival programme. You will have the chance to view the models which are on display in the Theatre and Performance Galleries. You can also see two sets made by Gent at the Building Centre as part of the Shaping Space - Architectural Models Revealed exhibition.

Covid security: we please ask that all attendees wear a face mask, unless they are exempt, and do not attend if they are displaying Covid symptoms.
