I want that one! Does community consultation produce good design?

Talk
Tue 5 Jul 2016

From the localism act in 2011 to the multi-million pound support for community-led housing in 2016, communities, individuals and councils now have a stronger influence on what is built locally. Never before has consultation been so essential but dialogue with the public can vary in quality from a Decide-Announce-Defend approach to true community-led design. This event brings together experts working on ambitious community engagement exercises and innovative community-led design projects to explore what works and what doesn’t.

Speakers include:

- Sophia de Sousa, chief executive of The Glass-House Community Led Design

- Chris Patterson, external affairs manager at Catalyst

- Victoria Whenray, project director at Conran + Partners

- Chair: Lewis Blackwell, co-curator of the exhibition, Re/making The Street

This event is free to attend but booking is essential. Breakfast will be served from 8.30am and the talk will begin at 9.00am and finish at 10.15am.

This event accompanies Re/making The Street, an exhibition curated by The Built Environment Trust, and is part of the London Festival of Architecture.
