The benefits of green infrastructure in cities are starting to be appreciated from many perspectives including health, economic and political. But the pressure, particularly in city centres, of development density and 'hard' infrastructure mean that progress can only be made through multi-agency initiatives where the value is agreed and shared by different stakeholders in the city environment. This may require new approaches to building design - for example, the attendant structure, services and maintenance.
This City Conversation will look at how different types of green infrastructure perform. Should building integrated green infrastructure be encouraged through planning or subsidy or left to the whim of the individual developer/building owner? Experts from planning, research, landscape and building design will explore the new frontiers of green infrastructure in the modern city.
Speakers include:
Trevor Curson, group director, environment at BuroHappold Engineering (chair)
Professor John Dover, professor of ecology at Staffordshire University
Jimmy Hung, project leader of Moganshan at Heatherwick Studio
James King, principal landscape architect at Planit-IE
Peter Massini, principal policy & programme officer, green infrastructure at Greater London Authority
City Conversations is a series of discussions around the issues that are changing our cities - growth, technology, resource efficiency and climate change. The conversations will address not only the new and changing infrastructure of cities but also how these are brought about and their impact on the lifestyle and wellbeing of citizens. The conversations are produced by BuroHappold Engineering with ngenuity Ltd in partnership with The Built Environment Trust.
This event is free to attend but booking is essential.
Registration will start from 6.00pm and the talk will begin at 6.30pm.
