Demand Management

Talk
Tue 30 Sep 2014

"Energy Conversations" is a series of informative and thought-provoking discussions around the supply and use of energy. Aimed at developers, occupiers, designers and suppliers they explore key political, planning and technical issues which influence sustainable buildings.

Managing the peaks and troughs of electricity demand is essential to maintain consistent supply, but are we now approaching a crisis point? Whilst generators continues to deliver at sufficient levels, figures suggest that 80% of London’s electricity distribution network is on or beyond working capacity. Should we respond by adding in supply of small scale local generation or by reducing demand? Is the electricity market organised as an appropriate delivery mechanism for this? Can punitive tariffs or smarter systems be effective at peak times? How can we respond to this situation on a city, corporate or domestic scale? And what does this mean for the designers and managers of building energy systems?

Speakers:

- Professor Goran Strbac, Imperial College
- Sara Bell, Demand Response Association
- David Boyer, UK Power Networks
- Yoav Zingher, KiWi Power
