LiveRoof® by Blackdown is a hybrid modular green roof system that functions like a built up on site green roof system. Its unique Soil Elevator™ and Moisture Portal™ technology work in partnership to ensure that post installation substrate to substrate contact is maintained. This allows for the natural sharing of water, nutrients and beneficial organisms across the entire rooftop strata.
This is not the case with many alternate modular green roof systems, which either compartmentalise the planting into captive cells or restrain plant growth within trays due to the plastic sides coming up to finished green roof level. In addition to creating long term performance issues this latter can create problem creates aesthetic concerns. LiveRoof by Blackdown solves both these problems and many more.
Each LiveRoof by Blackdown hybrid modular green roof unit consists of a 64mm deep tray manufacturer from recycled polypropylene (approximately 10% post consumer and 90% post industrial). A 52mm deep Soil Elevator™ is inserted into the tray creating a 70mm deep finished unit depth. A growing medium consisting of volcanic lava rock and natural pumice, blended with organic components is used to fill the substrate prior to the application of sedum cuttings.
Once fully grown the LiveRoof by Blackdown hybrid modular green roof unit is shipped to sire to be installed onto a moisture retention fleece over the waterproofing. Once interlocked the unique Soil Elevator™ is removed creating a continuous extensive sedum green roof.
