Wavin Acoustic Soil System Key To Tranquil £80 Million Waterside Development

4 Nov 2014
Case study

Offering low noise, durability and ease of installation, the Wavin AS System has provided a luxury waterside development in Hampshire with an acoustic soil system that ensures apartment dwellers only hear the sounds of lapping water from the Lymington River.

Featuring 170 homes ranging in price from £270,000 to £1.9 million, Lymington Shores is an exclusive development of apartments and villas in a prime waterfront location on the Lymington River in Hampshire.  For housebuilder Redrow Homes, sound proofing between the apartments of the four storey development was essential which led to the specification of noise reducing pipework from Wavin over traditional pipe systems.

Having looked at a range of options including cast iron and normal soil pipe drainage with sound proofing, Redrow Homes specified the proven Wavin AS System, an acoustic soil system.

‘For the concrete frame building, we required a pipe system that would ensure a noise free environment for apartment residents,’ commented Laura Barratt, Senior Technical Coordinator at Redrow Homes (Southern Counties). ‘We were looking for the most sensible product that could meet our acoustic requirements and the Wavin AS System met the challenge.’

Made of a minerally reinforced polypropylene called Astolan® which has a high specific weight and a special molecular structure, the Wavin AS System is able to absorb airborne sound as well as structure borne sound, which is caused by waste water hitting the pipe wall. Manufactured to BS EN 1451, the Wavin AS System also meets the acoustic requirements of the German standard DIN 4109, achieving a sound performance of under 30dB (A) at 2l/s.

Available in 110mm and 160mm and complemented by a full range of push-fit fittings, this durable system offers the flexibility of an extensive choice, excellent quality and reliability. Compared to cast iron, Wavin AS is quick and easy to install using simple push-fit sockets.

Ideal for multiple storey buildings requiring noise insulation such as hotels, hospitals, shopping malls, office buildings, residential homes, high-rise apartments, schools and universities, the Wavin AS system can be installed as a soil stack, internal rainwater system and suspended pipe system.

With this desirable marina development set for completion in the winter of 2015, the Wavin AS System has ensured the only gushing water sound residents hear will be the sound of the lapping water at the water’s edge.
