Vulcathene chemical drainage pipework has been installed in the brand new science laboratories of King’s College School, Wimbledon.
A total of 200 metres of Vulcathene pipework was specified to carry chemical waste from sinks in six science classrooms in the independent boys’ school. Pipework ranging from sizes 1½" to 4" were used in the laboratories which were built as an extension to the existing science block.

Halsion, the installers of the pipework system, took advantage of the two jointing methods available when using Vulcathene; mechanical and Enfusion. Nick Taylor, Project Manager, Halsion, said: “For much of the installation we used the Enfusion jointing process, but directly under the sinks we chose to use the mechanical coupling method. It is essentially for ‘future maintenance’ because the demountable joints make it easy for us to change and add to the pipework without damaging the original system.”
