VMZINC QUARTZ-ZINC roof for 1960s home conversion

15 Oct 2015
Case study

Treetops, in Riding Mill Northumberland, was a classic 1960s piece of domestic architecture for which the project brief was to create a modern house in line with current environmental and design standards. The result is a home which combines up-to-date materials and style with contemporary levels of sustainability and function. Having discovered the original form and shape of the roof, the challenge was to create an extension following the same line and pitch. A standing seam VMZINC system and zinc rainwater goods in pre-weathered QUARTZ-ZINC® were therefore specified by the Howard Litchfield Partnership. QUARTZ-ZINC will retain its colour while developing the natural, self-protecting patina for which zinc is renowned. The colour is unobtrusive in the rural setting and is popular because it complements a wide range of materials on both modern and traditional buildings.
