Traditional New Build, West Sussex

4 Jan 2021
Case study

“The original house was built in the 1860s but had fallen into a complete state of disrepair, so we decided to rebuild it beginning in 2018” explains Mr Armitage when describing his beautiful family home in the West Sussex Countryside.

With a desire to retain the original character of the old house, the new build was constructed using reclaimed bricks and roof tiles, and the owners were meticulous in their attention to detail, ensuring correctness and authenticity for the style they were aiming to achieve.

To help with the designs and plans, the Armitage brought a local architectural firm on board. “Our architect didn’t actually submit recommendations to us, but we have a friend who undertakes a lot of basement conversion work in London and uses Mumford & Wood on a regular basis. He was very complimentary of them and couldn’t recommend them higher, so with his endorsement, we were happy to go with Mumford & Wood for our home.”

With this style of architecture, sash windows were the most appropriate choice for the Armitage family. Their traditional appearance is a favourite among conservation and preservation authorities across the country. “We wanted to make sure every detail of the new home was correct, so we worked very closely with Mumford & Wood to ensure the fine details of our new windows were historically accurate”.

The new slim box sash windows from the Mumford & Wood Conservation range are a perfect fit for the newly finished family home. The fine glazing bars and decorative sash horns combined with the slimmer box width were all chosen for their historical accuracy and are a beautiful fit to the impressively finished property. Smaller flush casement windows in the same colour finish were also installed across the home.

“The sash windows are top notch! They work perfectly and are perfectly balanced. We are so very pleased with them” Mr Armitage comments.
