Tobermore Paving Specified at Northern Ireland’s Largest College

24 May 2016
Case study

A significant 9,900 sq. m new build and refurbishment programme has taken place at Lagan College in Belfast, including the addition of an expansive new landscape, designed with a selection of Tobermore’s finest paving offerings.

Lagan College is the largest integrated college in Northern Ireland, catering for a long-term enrolment of 1200 pupils.

BDP Architects was appointed to create the design concept for the college with Graham Construction being awarded the contract to undertake the exciting works.

The project involved a gruelling 124 week programme; The existing school buildings have been refurbished and integrated into the construction of a new build comprising of a media suite, extended sixth form provision, dining facilities, sports hall and fitness suite, sports pitches, a music and technology suite, a dance/drama studio, a new school Chaplaincy, not to mention a multitude of general classrooms.

BDP Architects specified a large quantity of Tobermore Tegula block paving in the rich, blended tones of Heather for the college, to create a stunning, timeless landscape. Tegula has a unique, aged appearance and adds style and character to any outdoor space.

Tegula Setts, which can be used to create a cobbled look, was selected in a combination of Heather and muted Charcoal. Tegula Circle was also installed as a method of creating an attractive focal area.

Additionally, Tobermore Standard Flags in a non-slip finish was added to the school grounds in a subtle random colour pattern of Natural and Charcoal.
