As part of this case study, we’re going to be taking a closer look at a substantial contemporary extension on a Nottinghamshire country house.
Having already worked with our sister company Vale Garden Houses on a project at their previous home, the owners of this property approached both companies as part of the renovation and extension of their new Edwardian country home. A grand, Gothic style conservatory incorporating Bronze Casement windows was constructed as the first part of the project; the house already contained metal windows and the bronze conservatory windows complemented them beautifully. Some of the existing metal windows had started to fail and were replaced with Bronze Casements at the same time.
The second phase of the project was a generous, brick-built kitchen and swimming complex extension, fully fitted with our Bronze windows and doors.
Our new Thermabronze extrusion was chosen for its improved thermal efficiency over the Heritage or Advanced windows we would normally specify. This was one of the earliest projects completed using the new system, and the large frames introduced an exciting possibility to show off our expertise. The Thermabronze windows were coupled with Double Clad Bronze Doors, delivering a sleek contemporary style that contrasts fantastically with the traditional theme of the main house.
The large double glazed units were ordered from a specialist glazier due to their size, and because of the weight, were installed using robotic lifting equipment to help minimize the chance for any mishaps.
All of the Bronze windows and doors were fitted into bespoke timber frames which were painted in ‘Flagstone’ from the Vale Period Paint Collection to match the conservatory and windows frames on the house, accentuating the colour of the bronze whilst tying together the two phases of the project. As a finishing touch, buff coloured silicon was used to seal between the timber frames and the brickwork to match in with the paint colour selected.
