Style Simplifies School Hall Moveable Wall Solution

7 Mar 2025
Case study

Moveable wall specialist Style worked directly with The Radstone Primary School in Northamptonshire to replace a full-height moveable wall in the main hall. It was installed by another company and after many years of issues and ongoing problems it was time to replace with new.

Style advised reducing the partition height, to aid with operation, by creating a bigger void depth whilst finishing with a painted bulkhead to complete the install. A new 3 metre high Dorma Huppe Variflex moveable wall was then installed.

With semi-automatic operation, this market leading moveable wall is smooth, light and effortless to open and close. With an exceptional 55dB acoustic rating, the Variflex makes it practical to run a noisy class on one side of the wall, whilst a quieter session is held on the other.

The Radstone Primary School is a new and forward-thinking school located in the heart of Brackley’s local community. It is a vibrant, growing school, catering for 420 children from Reception to Year 6. When the school was originally opened, a moveable wall was installed to allow the main hall to be divided into two separate areas. However, the system was experiencing operational issues, partly due to the height of the individual panels.

“This Variflex moveable wall is a great solution to divide a school hall,” said Steve Williams, sales director for Style Midlands, “and we see very high demand for moveable, folding and sliding walls in the education sector; from primary schools right through to universities.

“For busy spaces like The Radstone, the Variflex offers the added benefit that the panels faces are manufactured separately to the frame. This means the board faces are easily changed if one is damaged or scuffed, which is a huge saving compared to replacing the entire panel.”

To further increase the use of the divided hall, Style installed a pass door to provide ease of access between rooms, with the added advantage that the wall can then be left in place for extended periods.
