Stannah backs Boris' City Fringe reformation

26 Feb 2016
Case study

UK leading lift supplier, Stannah Lifts, has supported Boris Johnson’s City Fringe reformation by installing four Xtralift passenger lifts in Repton Street, a brand new social housing development by Tower Hamlets Community Housing (THCH) in East London.

This £9m development borders Regents Canal in the Limehouse area of the E1 postcode, a region currently in the grips of a mammoth regeneration into a diverse, dynamic district – all part of Boris’ City Fringe Opportunity Area Planning Framework to accommodate the escalating population and demand to live in London.

The 8-person Xtralifts play an essential role in making 6-storey Repton Street’s 44 rental and 16 shared-ownership homes accessible to residents, whatever their level of mobility, including wheelchair users.  This includes an increased door width from 800mm to 900mm, to comply with the recently refreshed Part M Building Regulations, which make sure all homes are future-proof for their residents. Fully compliant, the lifts also ensure that the premises’ owners meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010.

Longstanding client of Stannah Lifts, Hill Partnerships, was the main contractor on this project, with the lifts themselves specified byTHCH. Project Manager, Wayne Murray, chose these lifts for their cost-effective solution to moving more people faster and higher:

“The lifts are ideal for the access demands of this substantial residential complex. Excellent value for money, they look good too, with a robust stainless steel finish inside and out that helps them deliver 24/7 service for all their users – from residents to visitors and service people.”

All four units operate within wall-mounted shafts over 6 –7 stops (17850m – 18000mm), and at a speed of 1.0 m/s.  Their oil- and vibration-free, gearless traction drive makes them energy efficient and space saving, requiring no more than a small cabinet to house the controls.

As with all Stannah lift products, the Xtralift passenger lifts are covered by Stannah’s comprehensive service plan, which includes 24-hour breakdown and service visits, with continued lift maintenance by the Dartford arm of the London and South East branch of Stannah Lift Services, part of a nationwide network providing comprehensive lift servicing and support.
