Harris Academy Secondary School is a 6 form-entry secondary school in London which, in 2019, saw the integration of secondary school pupils and the proposed London Cancer Hub (LCH). The design of the new school aimed to inspire pupils through innovation, integrity and discovery; values which are echoed by Soprema.
The project brief was developed with the London Borough of Sutton and Harris Federation, together with multiple stakeholders and the surrounding community. Architype, a top London based architect, were asked to design a new school which could meet Passivhaus standard and also go on to meet BREEAM requirements.
The requirement of this high quality development was the integration of environmental sustainability, user comfort and well-being. To meet these requirements they needed a high quality roof specification which could offer thermal insulation and a high performance waterproofing solution.
The system included:
Primer: Elastocol 600
VCL: Sopravap Stick Alu S 16
Insulation used: SOPREMA Tapered system
Insulation Adhesive: Soprabond 525
Underlay: Ventirock SBS 3 TF
Cap Sheet: Sopralene Flam 250 AF
Upstand / details: Sopralene Flam 180 TF
SOLUTION
The Sopralene waterproofing system was installed to a very high standard by SOPREMA Approved main contractor – Roofline Group. The Sopralene Flam 250AF Capsheet was used within the waterproofing system as it offers superior performance and is also extremely durable. The incorporation of the right waterproofing solutions on the roof was key to achieving complete air-tightness to meet Passivhaus standards. The building now offers a healthy, optimised learning environment for school users and minimises carbon emissions.
