A range of aluminium glazing solutions from leading manufacturer Senior Architectural Systems has been specified for use at the new Feethams leisure development in Darlington, including the patented PURe® aluminium window system that offers some of the lowest U-values available on the UK market.
The new development sees the regeneration of a former bus depot in the centre of town and is set to play a vital role in helping to boost the economy and employment in the area with the creation of a new cinema, hotel and several new restaurants. Developed by Urban + Civic, the BIM project has been delivered by main contractor McLaughlin & Harvey and designed by Niven Architects.
The overall design scheme has been heavily influenced by the local landscape, with the traditional style red brick arches of the lower levels paying homage to Darlington’s railway heritage and providing the perfect contrast to the glazed areas above that feature doors, windows and curtain walling from Senior’s extensive product range.
Installed by leading fabricator Neu Glas Ltd, Senior’s innovative PURe® aluminium windows have been installed to the scheme’s new Premier Inn hotel, with the systems’ exceptionally low U-values and excellent acoustic performance contributing to creating a comfortable interior environment for guests.
A key focal point of the development is the piazza level that evokes the traditional atmosphere of a town market square and provides a vital community space. To create a light and modern feel, the restaurant and retail buildings incorporate Senior’s slim line curtain walling and SPW500 doors, with the curved curtain walling of the new cinema complex adding further interest. Another feature is the attractive curved glazed head screens around the perimeter by the roadside which were fabricated and installed by Frostree Ltd.
