Melton based Saint-Gobain PAM’s Holwell works has produced a commemorative manhole cover bearing the Leicester City Football Club logo in recognition of the Foxes’ incredible Premier League title winning season.
Passionate supporters at the foundry site have produced the covers and the company has asked the newly-crowned champions of England if it could present one of them, or a cast iron plaque, to the club as well as offering to supply some of the products free of charge.
Gary Postle, national key account manager at Saint-Gobain PAM UK, said: “Manhole covers are a core product at Holwell Works on Asfordby Hill, with about 20,000 odd made a year.
“There are a number of Leicester City supporters who work there. The director is a Derby County supporter but even he agreed to the commemorative manhole cover!
“We’ve made about eight of the covers at the moment but we could make as many as we need to. It will be interesting to see if the club respond.”
He added: “Leicester winning the Premier League has been quite uplifting. Production in the city has improved due to their success and it’s fair to say it has for us as well.
“Just in terms of people’s general wellbeing, staff have been walking around with smiles on their faces.”
