Safety underfoot in laboratories at Withington Girls’ School

9 Mar 2016
Case study

Heavy duty safety flooring from leading commercial vinyl flooring manufacturer Polyflor was recently installed as part of a refurbishment of the Chemistry department at Withington Girls’ School in Fallowfield, Manchester.

Around 800m² of Polysafe Corona PUR safety flooring in the grey Seal shade was fitted by Taylor Made Flooring of Swadlincote, Derbyshire to laboratories, classrooms and corridors at the independent day school for girls aged 7 to 18.

Part of the refurbished Senior School facilities, aspiring young scientists at Withington Girls’ School will now benefit from three state-of-the-art chemistry laboratories which have been upgraded to university specification and feature Polysafe safety flooring. These new laboratories along with other new buildings at the school formed part of a £5 million development project which was officially opened by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester in September 2015 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the School’s foundation.

Available in 12 shades featuring a multi-chip decoration, the Polysafe Corona PUR range of safety flooring fully complies with HSE and UK Slip Group Guidelines to give sustainable wet slip resistance throughout the guaranteed life of the product. This product achieves 36+ on the Pendulum wet test (Slider 96/Four S rubber), has a surface roughness of 20 microns and above and adheres to EN 13845 – the European standard for safety flooring.

The sustainable slip resistance offered by the inclusion of particles throughout the performance layer of Polysafe Corona PUR ensures it meets the 50,000 cycles abrasion test to EN 13845, meaning that it was the ideal choice for the school’s chemistry and food technology classrooms where there is the risk of slip hazards created by regular spillages.

This floorcovering also features Polysafe PUR, a unique, cross linked and UV cured polyurethane reinforcement for advanced maintenance benefits, optimum appearance, colour retention and improved soil release. This cutting edge PUR technology means that life cycle maintenance cost savings of up to 60% are achievable over a 15 year period when compared to untreated flooring.

Polysafe Corona PUR flooring contains recycled material and is 100% recyclable via the Recofloor vinyl take back scheme. The collection has also achieved an individually certificated BRE Global A+ rating (ENP 472) for education environments to help maximise a BREEAM score.

Product samples from all Polyflor’s safety flooring ranges can be ordered free of charge on the Polyflor website or by calling the Samples Direct Hotline on 0161 767 2551.
