The material for Nike Grind is end-of-life Nike shoes supplied through their Reuse-A-Shoe programme. Using a ‘slice-and-grind’ process the shoe is deconstructed into three parts – rubber outsole, foam midsole and upper fibre. The outsole forms Nike Grind Rubber for surfaces such as playgrounds and gyms. The midsole is recreated as Nike Grind Foam to produce cushioning for outdoor basketball and tennis courts. Nike Grind Fibre is created from the upper fibre and used to make athletic-surface padding and equestrian surfacing material.
