We can already see that the coronavirus will change the way we function in everyday life for many years to come. The COVID-19 pandemic and the dangers associated with it, have motivated both businesses and the entire public sphere to take action to increase the security of health, both for employees and for customers. This is made evident by an increased interest in technologies that improve safety, including UV-C radiation which LUG have included in our lighting portfolio, due to its effectiveness in tackling COVID-19.
UV-C radiation is proven to be one of the most effective methods of air and surface disinfection. It reaches every inaccessible corner and eliminates 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, mould, fungi, and other microbes in the room. This technology has been known for many years and is used today in water decontamination, sterilizers for decontaminating smartphones, laptops, appliances in beauty salons, medical equipment, and many others. One of the first institutions to issue recommendations for using UV-C radiation to deactivate SARS-CoV-2 was the National Health Commission in China. The high effectiveness of 253.7nm wavelengths in the fight against the coronavirus was also confirmed by researchers from the Columbia University Centre for Radiological Research, who found this to be one of the most effective methods. Ultra-violet light has been proven to destroy the thin lipid layer of the coronavirus and deactivate it.
What makes LUG stand out is the individual approach to our projects, because we know how diverse the needs of our customers are. This is why the LUG PURELIGHT family offers a number of luminaire variants, including the PURELIGHT DIRECT luminaire with direct UV-C radiation, the PURELIGHT FLOW luminaire with the air purification function only, or the PURELIGHT HYBRID variant that combines both of those functions. We have also developed a number of accessories that help ensure compliance with the highest safety standards and maintain the specialized UV-C sources in working condition. Thanks to the use of smart technology, it is possible to control the luminaires remotely, without having to stay near the sterilized room. The luminaires can additionally be fitted with motion sensors, open door sensors, or an hour meter. Depending on the customer and application demands, LUG has a solution that can be used when people and/or animals are present in the room, and a solution for empty rooms.
The LUG team of specialists are ready to provide customers with expert support at every stage of a project, optimising the solution to suit.
