Windows and doors by Mumford & Wood, the specialist manufacturer of bespoke period timber windows, doors and garden rooms, have been specified for a superb, hi-spec, hi-tech property in Oxshott, Surrey, on the coveted Crown Estate.
The 11,500 sq ft home, a one-for-one inspirational newbuild, offers desirable accommodation beautifully finished with marble, stone and solid timber, has ballroom-size hallways and atrium landing, a grand open plan kitchen-dining-day room, formal rooms and study, and numerous en-suite bedrooms with dressing rooms and balconies.
Following the perfect balance and symmetry of traditional Georgian architecture, the property features large traditional box sash windows to the front elevation from the Mumford & Wood Conservation™ range. Specified by Marchment Projects, Birmingham, on behalf of the developer, these award-winning Conservation™ windows are made to measure from knot-free engineered Siberian larch, providing superior strength and stability, and offer exceptional levels of acoustic and thermal efficiency. With Window Energy Ratings ‘A – C’, depending on specification, a whole frame U-value of 1.4 W/m²K is achieved which meets and exceeds the current requirements of Part L Building Regulations.
An arched Georgian sliding sash, the ever-popular choice for distinguished homes, flanked with 4- over-4 sliding sash panels, graces the lofty office accommodation and provides elegant, traditional sightlines combined with modern day levels of performance.
Tall and elegant complementary Conservation™ casement windows, fixed glazed panels and French doors feature extensively to the rear ground floor accommodation providing light and space throughout this large open-plan area. The pool, gym and spa complex has uncluttered non-bar box sash windows while bi-fold doors provide beautiful views and easy access to the mature exterior landscape.
Mumford & Wood’s timber bi-fold door collection, available in Conservation™ and Contemporary™ styles, are designed to allow maximum space and light with the flexibility of inward and outward opening configurations to suit internal room dimensions. Robust multipoint locking systems provide the highest levels of security for total peace of mind while premium quality ironmongery allows smooth and easy operation.
“This project has been a labour of love for almost two years,” says Richard Smith, Marchment Projects, “and we are all very pleased with the results. I’ve specified Mumford & Wood before for similarly prestigious projects and on this occasion the contractor did consider other manufacturers. We compared samples of all three alternative suppliers but there was no comparison with the quality, performance and exceptional design aesthetics of the Mumford & Wood product.”
A magnificent solid timber entrance door has been specified for this project which has an egg-and-dart decorative fanlight grill. Conservation™ entrance doors are manufactured from heavy 57mm thick door sections with wide rails and muntins. Panels are of exterior grade, 45mmm thick, composite insulated ‘warm’ construction, with a U-value of 1.2 W/m²K, featuring raised and fielded profiles on both sides.
Conservation™ products are made in Great Britain by Mumford & Wood and carry the BSI Kitemark, Energy Saving Trust and Secured by Design accreditations. Windows, doors and garden rooms can be seen at the company’s showrooms in Tiptree, Essex, or at the Building Centre, Store Street, London.
