Polyflor helps freshen up Halton Hospital’s new urgent care centre

30 Jun 2015
Case study

Polyflor’s vinyl flooring has helped create a fresh, clean and welcoming environment at a new urgent care centre at Halton Hospital in Runcorn recently.

Polyflor’s Pearlazzo PUR highly durable sheet vinyl flooring and Polysafe Wood fx PUR safety flooring were installed throughout the facility by flooring contractors Jepsons Limited of Darwen, Lancashire. This facility was originally a minor injuries department with an out of hours GP’s surgery attached but thanks to the refurbishment it has been transformed by main contractors JMBC Ltd into an urgent care centre which opened in February 2015.  The centre expects to attract an increased number of patients, from the 40 per day it saw as the previous minor injuries unit to up to 120 per day as a successful urgent care centre.

Pearlazzo PUR sheet vinyl flooring in complementary fresh shades of Lemon Ice 9702 and Mint Crisp 9706 were used in corridors, nursing stations, reception areas and waiting rooms at Halton Hospital. Available in 24 contemporary shades including neutrals, pastels and brights, the Pearlazzo PUR homogeneous flooring range is popular for healthcare environments due to its UV cured and cross-linked polyurethane PUR coating which allows for an easier cleaning and polish-free maintenance regime.

As a contrast to the pastel tones used in corridors and circulation areas within the hospital, Polysafe Wood fx PUR safety flooring in Warm Beech 3297 was fitted in the treatment rooms. With an attractive wood effect design and virtually invisible safety particles within the vinyl, the Wood fx range was an ideal choice for creating inviting, non-clinical spaces with the added benefit of sustainable wet slip resistance, particularly around sinks and areas of potential spillage.

Lee Bushell, Building Surveyor at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Trust commented, “Overall Polyflor’s flooring helps create a clean and bright atmosphere where we deliberately used a combination of colours and designs as way finding aids for patients with dementia or those who are partially sighted. The corridor and circulation areas being one colour helps people find their way around the facility and the contrast of the wood effect floor in the treatment rooms helps the patient recognise that they are entering a different area.”

Product samples can be ordered free of charge on the Polyflor website or by calling the Polyflor Samples Direct Hotline on 0161 767 2551. Polyflor flooring ranges include 25% recycled content on average and are recyclable via the Recofloor vinyl take back scheme.

Proving their environmental credentials, the Pearlazzo PUR and Wood fx PUR flooring collections achieve individually certified BRE Global A+ ratings in healthcare facilities which can contribute to BREEAM credits, as can the products’ BES 6001 certification which demonstrates compliance with a recognised responsible sourcing scheme as certified by the BRE.
