POLICE APPROVED, Ecotilt Secure sashes installed for Thames Valley Police

14 Oct 2008
News
Mighton’s innovative Ecotilt Secure sashes have been installed in the Thames Valley Police station at High Wycombe. Six sliding sashes, 3 metres high and 1.3 metres wide, made from engineered softwood, were fitted over the course of April in a project worth £19,000. At the time of writing, the windows are receiving Secured By Design approval direct from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), on the strength of the BM TRADA Q-Mark for Enhanced Security Windows.

Ecotilt Secure uses a combination of security locks and stainless steel protection to make it the only timber vertical slider to achieve SBD standards. These include Mighton’s patented Fitch Fastener and brass Ventlock, the latter designed to allow a sash to be left open a few inches for ventilation without compromising security. Using Solaglas bullet-proof glass, supplied by Andrews Glass (11.5ml laminated glass on the outer pane and 4ml toughened glass on the inner pane), the double-glazed unit for the bottom sash alone weighs 60kg!

Reg Bishop of Forest Hall Joinery who installed the windows gives further details: “Thames Valley Police is refurbishing the front counter area and wanted secure windows that looked like the original single glazed sash windows as the building is in a conservation area – so the planning officers were keen to keep an eye on the project, particularly because the Town Hall is opposite. Peter Moore, Thames Valley’s Project Liasion Officer, found us by looking up Secured by Design timber sashes using the ACPO product finder on www.securedbydesign.com. Ecotilt is the only timber sash with SBD so it was an easy choice.”
