Creating a bridge between the natural environment and the built environment is a tricky feat to accomplish. Architects and designers are constantly innovating to be able to light and heat spaces by natural means, but also implement outward-looking designs that focus on the view, surrounding vistas, and landscapes enjoyed from a comfortable space. Residential, commercial, and public sector spaces are all targeted by designers and architects as places to introduce more light.
Enter Nova: the glazed pivoting security door by manufacturers Oikos Doors and supplied in the UK by Bluebell Architectural Products. Championing the versatility of glass and aluminium, the Nova door is an impressive marriage of a large glazed surface, colourful aluminium framing, and an unobtrusive, flush aesthetic that seamlessly blends into any space. The design of the Nova door is dual purpose: letting in light, and offering users exceptional security and thermal values.
With their history of designing and creating architectural entrances and luxury security doors, Oikos have created Nova as a response to an increasing market demand for secure, architectural glazed pivot entrances.
Nova’s innovative construction offers an array of design possibilities: specifiable up to 6.3m high and 3.5m wide, the door can be tailored to create a wide, stunning entrance, optimising the available space. Weighted and balanced on hidden pivot pins, Nova is a joy to operate, as its hardware – including an inset vertical handle – lies flush with the frame to avoid unsightly obstructions to the door’s sleek, architectural lines.
Nova’s characteristics are unique for an entrance door, from Class 3 Break-In Resistance and burglar-proof safety glass, to double and triple glazed thermal glass that combined with a cleverly-designed thermal break frame offers U-values as low as 0.98W/m2k. Twelve colours or ‘moods’ are available for the frame and handle, to match a surrounding façade or the exterior landscape. The handle and frame can even be specified to contrast in colour as a special design detail.
Flush-to-wall opening and hardware means Nova can be seamlessly integrated into any space and its glass aesthetic can be extended – it’s possible to be installed with lateral glazing or as part of a façade for a striking, transparent appeal.
Nova is an architectural statement door that uses glass and aluminium to create a door with an array of design possibilities for showrooms, offices, public sector buildings, and residential dwellings.
