Polyflor’s latest advancement in safety flooring is already making waves at Cardiff’s International Pool, Wales’ highly acclaimed swimming venue. As part of a recent interior refurbishment, 240m2 of Polysafe Verona PUR sheet vinyl has been installed into customer and staff areas to provide an attractive, fresh and safe surface that is ideally suited to this leisure environment.
Located in the heart of Cardiff Bay as part of the International Sports Village, this £23m complex boasts the largest swimming facility in the UK and features a state of the art 50m Olympic pool with seating that caters for up to 1000 visitors. Polysafe Verona PUR was selected to provide the required durability to withstand heavy traffic in this customer area, whilst ensuring sustained wet slip resistance, ease of maintenance and an attractive carborundum-free appearance that is a world away from the look of traditional safety flooring.
Specified and installed by Leeway Carpets & Flooring in Pontypridd, a combination of Polysafe Verona colours Horizon Blue 5208 and Nightfall 5207 are laid in the extensive walkway behind the spectator seating area that surrounds the venue’s 50m Olympic Pool as well as in an adjacent lighting room and judges’ meeting room. The circulation area involved Leeway’s skilled team of fitters installing a border using Verona’s dark blue hue which was cut in on-site, perfectly complementing the main field colour.
Darren Phillips, Centre Manager at Cardiff International Pool commented: “We are very pleased with the finished look and performance of the Polysafe Verona flooring. The colour combination is perfect for our facility and projects a refreshing yet relaxed ambience. It is important that our visitors have added safety underfoot in light of any contamination or spillages that may occur but it is also paramount that the area is visually appealing and in keeping with the design of the building. We certainly have an attractive interior space and the colours work really well for this type of environment – Verona certainly looks the part and not like your typical safety floor!”
Luke Stoneman, Contracts Manager at Leeway Carpets and Flooring adds “Our end client is delighted with the safety flooring installation. The Verona colours are great and very much in tune with a leisure environment such as this. In addition and importantly for us, the product is easy to get hold of, nice to fit and easy to cut and weld. We’re certainly impressed with the overall finish – a superb addition to the Polysafe collection.”
It is vital for a safety floor to perform in this type of leisure environment as well as other commercial and residential areas and Polysafe Verona is fully certified to achieve the same tried and tested slip resistant credentials as all Polysafe ranges. Meeting HSE and UK Slip Group Guidelines to deliver sustained wet slip resistance throughout the guaranteed life of the product, Verona achieves 36+ on the Pendulum wet test and has a surface roughness of 20 microns and above, classifying the product as low slip potential. Verona fully adheres to EN 13845 – the European Standard for safety flooring and meets the 50,000 cycles abrasion test, ensuring the virtually invisible particles incorporated into the product are sustainable and provide continued friction over the long term.
To aid maintenance, Polysafe Verona contains the renowned Polysafe polyurethane reinforcement (PUR) cleaning technology and through the use of natural recycled aggregates the product contains recycled content, being 100% recyclable via the Recofloor scheme. The product is readily available from Polyflor’s national network of flooring distributor partners.
