Michelmersh proudly sponsored the Urban Regeneration category at the 43rd Brick Awards ceremony on Wednesday 13th November, an event that is hosted annually by the Brick Development Association. As a result of the British Manufacturer’s premium quality products and first-rate customer service, Michelmersh was announced the winner of several categories, including Education, House Builder and Specialist Brickwork Contractor. Britain’s Brick Specialist continued its success throughout the evening by collecting 5 commendations, awarded to The W1 London - 35 Marylebone High Street, Elephant Park, The Caxton at Buckingham Green, King’s College School Wimbledon - Music School and Dancy House.

Michelmersh was delighted to have submitted the entry for Croudace Homes, which won the House Builder award, presented to 3 projects including Kingsweald, which specified Freshfield Lane First Quality Multi facing bricks for this fabulous development. Michelmersh has always considered it a pleasure to work closely with Croudace on a wide variety of schemes of which the primary objective is to produce high quality homes supported by a first-class customer service.

Matthew Norris, Building Director at Croudace, commented: “We have used Michelmersh’s high quality products for many years on a wide variety of developments in the South Thames region. We are absolutely delighted to win the Housebuilder category and this exemplary scheme shows how quality products, high quality craftsmanship and great customer service can result in homes that we are all truly proud to present. These homes are aesthetically pleasing with fantastic durability and longevity characteristics. We look forward to continue working with Britain’s Brick Specialist in the future and for many developments to come.”

The Royal College of Pathologists, designed by Bennetts Associates, specified a Michelmersh, Freshfield Lane Selected Dark brick and proudly won the award for Education. The new London headquarters for the Royal College of Pathologists is a flexible, environmentally efficient building. Located in the rapidly changing area of Aldgate on the city’s eastern fringes, the seven-storey building replaces an existing office block and represents the final phase in the College’s relocation from its former home in the West End.

The new building uses materials and artefacts to reflect the character of the Royal College, with social areas, staff offices and education spaces that reference the college’s history and look to its future. As a key feature, the building’s sixth floor steps back, creating an open-plan pavilion with panoramic views over London. The large double height reception space can be used for hosting public exhibitions and events while the full height windows at ground floor level create transparency and a sense of openness.

Orchard Gardens, designed by Panter Hudspiths Architects and built to an exceptional standard by Lee Marley Brickwork (LMB), featured a combination of brick blends including Michelmersh Selected Dark facings and won the category for Specialist Brickwork Contractor. Lee Marley is dedicated to a long-standing commitment alongside Michelmersh in working with Brooklands College students and supporting bricklaying education across the country. In 2018/9 LMB has had 29 apprentices working on site and has developed an innovative programme in partnership with Brooklands that allows their Training Manager to deliver courses on modern methods of construction using the highest quality, premium products from Michelmersh.

Frank Hanna, Joint Chief Executive Officer of Michelmersh, said: “with such a wide variety of shortlisted projects we are extremely proud to receive the awards, commendation and recognition across a range of categories. This is testament to our team’s commitment to maintaining our high-quality standards and unrivalled attention to detail. These attributes allow us to continue making our bespoke, specialist products and materials of choice for acclaimed and renowned architects, house builders and contractors across the UK. Michelmersh plays a key part in supplying quality bricks to these superb built environments to enhance local communities, built to last for generations to come.”
