The Quiet Tree House, the focal point of the Ideal Home Show, will feature a supporting plinth and decorative window grills made from the extreme durable MDF, MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME
Developed by Blue Forest, a specialist tree house company, on behalf of Quiet Mark, the international mark of approval from the UK’s Noise Abatement Society, and John Lewis, MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME was chosen for its stable and durable properties. Quiet Mark, the headline sponsor of the Ideal Home Show is working with a range of partners, including Samsung and Lexus motor cars. The not for profit organisation wanted to showcase technology in harmony with nature and ground-breaking solutions to everyday unwanted noise. The ambition was therefore to create an escape from the hustle and bustle of today’s noisy world in an acoustic haven. The design of the 150m 2 structure itself takes its inspiration from trees on a hill.
To recreate this vision 136 panels of 15mm MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME were used at a size of 305mm x 1220mm for fins at the base of the tree house, depicting tree trunks. The material has also been used to create an exposed timber banister on the outside deck and fixings for some decorative elements on the main part of the tree house.
Supplied directly from MEDITE SMARTPLY, CNC-IT in Sussex machined and cut the panels. The fins were stained dark brown to match the external cladding of the building, reflecting the natural bark of trees.
The acoustically engineered tree house features insulated wall linings for a soundproof hideaway area. Once it has been showcased at the event it will be given to Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice in Sussex, where it will provide a permanent outdoor feature for the enjoyment of young people with progressive life-limiting conditions.
Simon Payne, director at Blue Forest said: “The longevity of MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME was initially discovered when we saw a sample of the material in a bucket of water, it didn’t expand or shrink as other wood products and certainly MDF would do. We knew this was the material we wanted for the tree house! It’s easily machined, cut and painted. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome.”
Peter Clifton, Product Manager of MEDITE SMARTPLY, said “MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME is the ideal MDF for outdoor projects, and this project reflects the nature of MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME as the tree house will live on from the Ideal Home Show for a really good, worthwhile cause, emphasising that sustainability is at the core of all our products.”
