MEDITE SMARTPLY Exhibits its versatility at The Building Centre

News

The Building Centre has once again turned to the versatility, strength and durability of SMARTPLY OSB3 for a new major summer exhibition about architectural, planning and engineering visualisation. Suitable for a variety of building applications, the smart, cost-effective and environmentally friendly SMARTPLY OSB3 panels have been used to build stands, displays and seating areas at ‘Drawn to the Future’

Visitors to the interactive exhibition can experience how architects now use state-of-the-art gaming technology to ‘live specify’ interior design or take a virtual reality roller coaster ride in an Oculus Rift headset – whilst sitting comfortably on one of the many seating areas built from SMARTPLY OSB3 panels. SMARTPLY has also been used in the construction of a series of geometrically shaped product displays and information stands.

“SMARTPLY OSB3 will be integral to this year’s summer exhibition at The Building Centre and provides an ideal opportunity for clients both old and new to sample and experience the true quality and versatility of our OSB wood panels,’ commented MEDITE SMARTPLY. “It’s great to see SMARTPLY OSB3 being used at a venue and exhibition which is synonymous with product innovation and pioneering technologies.”

SMARTPLY OSB3 is a highly engineered, moisture resistant load-bearing panel designed for use in humid conditions, making it ideal for many structural and non-structural applications in both internal and protected external environments.

The zero-added formaldehyde panel, which is manufactured in accordance with EN 300, is suitable for a range of applications such as roofing, flooring and wall sheathing. It offers builders and roofing contractors a versatile alternative to plywood, providing peace of mind in both CE-marked certified structural performance and FSC® certified environmental credibility.

MEDITE SMARTPLY added: “The use of SmartPly OSB3 is testament to its inherent durability and versatility, which can be used for the interior seating areas and display stands or for structural applications – as demonstrated last year when 350 SmartPly OSB3 panels were used in the main frame of the WikiHouse 4.0.”

Built outside The Building Centre as part of London Design Festival 2014, WikiHouse 4.0 was the world’s first two storey, low energy WikiHouse to be built for under £50k. A total of 350 18mm SmartPly OSB3 panels of 2440x1220mm were used for the main frame of the structure, with a CNC machine being used to cut the panels and building blocks being interlinked to hold them together without the need for bolts.

Following the successful application at WikiHouse 4.0, SmartPly OSB3 has once again provided the perfect panel solution at the world’s largest permanent exhibition and single source of information for the construction industry. Offering architects and specifiers a unique opportunity to experience new and innovative products and materials, The Building Centre provides a perfect showcase for the visual, structural and performance benefits of SMARTPLY.
