A SkyGard patent glazing system from Lonsdale Metal Company has been used to transform a series of canopies at Lochearnhead Scout Station – a converted railway station that offers outstanding facilities for visitors exploring the central highlands of Scotland.
Located approximately 30 miles north of Stirling, the revamped railway station now includes a large dining area, sun lounge, office, kitchen and accommodation for up to 90 people. Operated by Hertfordshire Scouts, Tranzglaze Specialist Glazing Contractors Ltd was appointed to complete a comprehensive restoration of the station roof canopy, patent glazing system.

With its traditional inverted ‘T’ bar appearance, SkyGard is ideal for unheated spaces such as canopies, walkways, verandahs, car ports, shelters or rail platforms. Installed quickly and efficiently with the assistance of mobile aluminium tower scaffolds, the glazing bar system offers exceptional value to the building owner and fast installation times for contractors.
Installed during the harsh Scottish winter with shorter working days, inclement weather and limited access due to snowfall, the fast and simple installation of the SkyGard patent glazing system ensured the project was delivered on schedule.
To ensure the highest safety standards, Lonsdale recommended laminated glass for the series of 620mm x 2400mm glazed elements. With the specification of laminated glass, if any panel is damaged, its laminated interlayer will hold the glass within the frame to avoid risk of personal injury to members of the public below.
