London Festival of Architecture 2017

The London Festival of Architecture 2017 programme has launched with over 450 events exploring this year’s ‘memory’ theme across the capital from 1-30 June.{{auth_split}} 

In the line-up is Night Time is the Right Time, a major exhibition and event programme exploring ideas for better 24-hour cities. The project is supported by the Mayor of London. An international ideas competition which seeks small-scale interventions, built or proposed projects and futuristic ideas for better cities at night was launched as part of the programme. Winning entries will be showcased in the exhibition and their key themes will be examined more deeply in a series of events.

LFA’s 2017 theme of ‘memory’ is integral to the Night Time is the Right Time exhibition and event programme. The UK’s late night cultural heritage is ingrained in our built environment - from medieval taverns to punk rock venues and Britpop landmarks.

Our night-time experiences play an important part in how we remember a place. The vibrancy of spaces, our sense of safety, the connections we make with people all affect how we feel about a city. We remember music venues, theatres, late-night café spaces and busy public squares. Successful 24-hour cities must work for all ages, they must be safe and allow for ease of work, travel and entertainment. The night-life of our cities will inform the memories of generations to come.

The London Festival of Architecture celebrates London as a global hub of architectural experimentation, practice and debate. Taking place from 1-30 June, the annual festival provokes questions about the contemporary and future life of the city, and promotes positive change to its public realm. The city-wide programme is delivered by leading cultural and academic institutions alongside associated projects by practices and individuals.
