LG provides air conditioning for 'Gunners' named rooms in new Engie HQ

6 Nov 2019
Case study

The occupier of new offices in Hatfield inherited background air conditioning but through the dividing up of the floor plate of the second floor at Titan Court into smaller offices and meeting rooms, needed additional air conditioning that could be controlled room by room. The solution was an LG 3 pipe Heat recovery Multi V 5 VRF system connected to twelve indoor ceiling mounted cassette units - each individual room sporting the name of a famous Arsenal footballer from recent history – rather giving away the allegiance of the company’s owner! Rooms in the new building are named after the likes of Bergkamp, Henry, Merson and Adams!

ENGIE is a leading energy and services company focused on three key activities – production and supply of energy, facilities management and regeneration. 17,000 employees combine these capabilities for the benefit of individuals, businesses and communities throughout the UK and Ireland. The company enables customers to embrace a lower carbon, more efficient and increasingly digital world. They benefit from energy efficient and smart building solutions, the provision of effective and innovative services, the transformation of neighbourhoods through regeneration projects, and the supply of reliable, flexible and renewable energy.

So it’s no surprise that ENGIE wanted the best solution possible to make the working environment for its own employees as comfortable as possible, to enable them to be as productive as possible.

The LG equipment was supplied by M3R Climate and installed by office fitting company Woodhouse. LG used its advanced LATS CAD software to display the concept of the installation to the client prior to the decision to select LG equipment for the task. LG Air Conditioner Technical Solutions (LATS) CAD 2.0 is a fast and effective way to create drawing plans for LG Air Conditioning Technologies systems. There are separate tab for LATS on the Autodesk® AutoCAD® ribbon bar and this tab takes you to two menus for easily navigating various features of LATS. In addition, the system selected included the specification of an LG AC Smart 5 Central Controller as well as wireless controls for each room.

“We were delighted to be selected for this prestigious project,” says M3R’s Ryan Konteh. “The LG Multi V 5 - LG Electronics latest Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) solution – has a host of technological advancements. These include a ‘Dual Sensing Control’ system, which monitors both temperature and humidity levels, reacting to both sensible and latent heat loads. It features LG’s own 5th generation ultimate inverter compressor and a larger system capacity offering, along with improved seasonal efficiencies, making Multi V 5 the ultimate climate control solution.

Directly benefiting the end user, Dual Sensing Control is a new advanced system concept that reduces operating costs and optimises comfort conditions.  The Multi V 5 system reacts to load requirements by monitoring both temperature and humidity levels. Using Smart Load Control (SLC), the system operating conditions are regulated in reaction to both latent and sensible heat loads rather than a traditional sensible load only, increasing energy efficiency by up to 31% compared to none SLC models.

LG’s own 5th generation compressor offers a host of unique LG technological developments, including a High Sided Shell (HSS), High Pressure Oil Return (HIPOR) and a new Polyetheretheketone (PEEK) bearing allows an all inverter, system compressor to operate  between 10Hz – 165Hz, increasing partial efficiencies, extending capacity, and increasing reliability.
