The Lee Valley White Water Centre hosted the 2012 Olympic Games Canoe Slalom preliminary and final competitions with a gross maximum capacity of 12,000 spectators. It was the first purpose-built venue completed for the London 2012 Olympic Games and the only new build venue available for community use in advance of the Games.
The Centre was designed to support and sustain opportunities for both elite athletes and the wider community to reach and enjoy their individual potential as part of the legacy of the London 2012 Games. Statistics illustrate conclusive evidence of its success with user numbers far exceeding the original targets.
Following the Games, the facility will offer an extensive sports development programme run in partnership with the British Canoe Union. The 2015 Canoe Slalom World Championships will be held at the Lee Valley White Water Centre, in which eighty countries will be participating, demonstrating its commercial and sporting potential.
