Kingspan updates guidance for fire safety compliance in high rise

With an ever increasing demand for affordable homes and commercial developments where space is limited, developers need to be able to build upwards; creating high-density communities in high-rise buildings. To ensure such purpose-built constructions adhere to complex fire safety regulations, as well as tackling misconceptions surrounding the use of insulation in rainscreen and masonry façades, Kingspan Insulation has released its second issue technical bulletin which focuses on buildings with habitable storeys 18 metres or more above ground level.

The improved ‘Routes to Compliance: Fire Safety’ bulletin features a general overview of the linear, performance-based, and fire safety engineering routes; offering stakeholders an easy place to check if their desired build-up follows the best route to compliance. The full technical bulletin is available to download from Kingspan Insulation’s website: www.kingspaninsulation.co.uk/routestocompliance

The technical bulletin also includes recent case studies, project specific build-ups incorporating Kingspan Kooltherm K15 Rainscreen Board that have been assessed by fire safety specialists via a Desktop Study, along with the latest build-ups that have been successfully tested to BS 8414–1: 2002 and BS 8414–2: 2005, in accordance with the performance criteria set out in BR 135. Furthermore, the download includes a handy step-by-step diagram to help identify the most appropriate route to take when installing Kingspan Kooltherm K15 Rainscreen Board on a designated application.

In addition to the technical bulletin download, the ‘Routes to Compliance’ page hosts a selection of other resources, including a short video on the different approaches to compliance, along with a breakdown of the most common considerations when assessing if a project is compliant. Kingspan Insulation’s technical experts can also provide practical guidance and can be contacted for further information on: highrisetechnical@kingspan.com
