A range of premium and high-performance products from Kingspan Insulation have been installed on a stunning new beachfront home on the Isle of Wight, featured on Grand Designs.
Bram and Lisa Vis worked with local architect Lincoln Miles to help create a sensitive, low-level design for their family home, using a range of cladding materials to gently blend the building with its surrounding woodland. The seven-bedroomed property includes a gym, swimming pool and private beach, whilst its giant V layout offers perfectly framed vistas out across the Solent to Portsmouth and Southampton.
Kingspan Kooltherm K8 Cavity Board was used to insulate the majority of the walls throughout the property, whilst a further two layers of Kooltherm K7 Pitched Roof Board were applied to the ground floor overhang. With thermal conductivities as low as 0.020 W/m.K, the products delivered the required thermal performance with a slim build-up, helping to maximise space within the rooms.
The flat roofs of the modernist style building were insulated using Kingspan Thermaroof TR26 LPC/FM and Thermaroof TR27 LPC/FM. To complete the building envelope, Kingspan Thermafloor TF70 was used to insulate the ground, basement and terrace floors, whilst Kingspan Thermawall TW50 was applied to a curved wall within the basement which houses the indoor gym.
Architect, Lincoln Miles commented:
“The aim of the design was to create a high-quality contemporary building which respects the character of the local site. The Kingspan Insulation products met all the project requirements as part of this quality focused specification.”
All Kingspan Insulation products used on the project have been assigned a BRE 2008 Green Guide Summary Rating of A or A+. The products feature a fibre-free insulation core and are certified ‘Excellent’ under the demanding BES 6001: Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products standard.
