Bunhill’s chemical-free water treatment plant.
An IWTM T1000 was retrofitted onto the Bunhill Energy Centre back in 2020 to protect the 300,000l network from corrosion and bacteria.
The Project a world first in taking waste heat from the London Underground to provide a DHN serving homes two leisure centres and a school in Islington.
Specified and installed by Vital Energi in agreement with Colloide, the IWTMs were installed in two different locations on the system to convert the network to follow the principles of chemical-free and VDI 2035.
Our Chief Technical Engineer Dave Smith can be seen replacing the initial set of anodes which have been depleted as initial anodes work very hard in year one as the unit strips out the chemicals away whilst maintaining a non-corrosive state. This site now has only simply anode maintenance rather than a chemical water treatment which is a much greener solution for this key environmental project.
