Enrolling future students as the professionals, scholars, artists and financiers of tomorrow is big business for UK universities. Student open days and fairs are important events in education calendars as they showcase campus amenities and facilities.
A wide variety of kiosks and booths are located around campuses, or next to principle buildings for universities which are located in city centre locations. Powering such stands can be problematic and quite hazardous with traditional power methods, for example petrol generators.
Pop Up Power Supplies® manufacture and supply a range of innovative retractable power units which are ideal for powering kiosks and booths in university campuses. Two popular options include their Pop Up Power Units and In Ground Power Units. Both power units provide a sensitive source of electricity for outdoor events, have minimal impact on the nearby surrounds and importantly are incredibly safe for nearby pedestrians.
Powering outdoor areas within university establishments
University institutions place significant resources and effort on student enrolment, organising open days and student events on a regular basis throughout the year. Traditional methods of powering stalls and booths in these outdoor events often involved having trailing wires from nearby buildings or petrol generators. Both methods pose significant safety issues including trip and electrocution hazards.
Pop Up Power Supplies® manufacture and supply a range of pop up power units that provide a safe and secure outdoor power supply for open days on university campuses. Their in ground power units provide an outdoor power supply with the lid locked down. Their pop up power units provide an outdoor power source for kiosks, and their retractable nature means when they are no longer needed they are simply lowered back into the ground.
Powering outdoor spaces in universities across the UK
Pop Up Power Supplies® have supplied universities across the UK with their power units. Developers and Architects working on Exeter University designed a range of our PUPS01 retractable service units into the area outside the Forum building. This area is the heart of the Streatham Campus, which houses various open days and student events throughout the year.
The PUPS01 pop up units provide 125A power supply in single and three phase plug sockets with RCBO protection. Another benefit of the power units that developers and the University itself appreciated is the fact that the lids of the units can accommodate almost any surface infill, whether concrete, paving, grass or resin surfacing. The units at Exeter University were designed with the paving infill that was used in the communal outdoor area, meaning when lowered into the ground the units appear seamless to the environment.
Aberdeen University also features a range of pop up power units. The PUPS01 was again the unit of choice, and several units were installed in the outside lawn areas by The Kings College Chapel and also Elphinstone Hall, to provide outdoor power to marquees used for weddings and corporate events.
George Parker, Director of Pop Up Power Supplies® commented, “Aberdeen University is famous for its beautiful architecture and because of this they didn’t want power units around the campus being a permanent feature. Our pop up units were recommended as they provide the necessary outdoor power supply for their wedding and corporate events, and when they aren’t in use they are simply retracted into the ground by turning a handle.”
