Howarth Timber and Building Supplies has concluded this year’s Local Music Live, a nationwide competition which aims to find the next big thing in music, by naming The Covasettes as its favourite act for 2018. The indie band will now have the opportunity to perform at this year’s prestigious Audio & Radio Industry Awards (ARIAS).
The company once again sponsored Local Music Live, where singer/songwriters and bands were able to submit their songs to localmusiclive.org. This year, 600 entrants participated, collectively submitting over a thousand songs.
After two months of the competition being open, Local Music Live and Howarth Timber’s panel of judges chose their overall favourite, deciding to award The Covasettes with this year’s top prize.
The quartet, based in Manchester’s student town of Fallowfield, have won the fantastic opportunity to present their music to a wider audience with a set at the ARIAS later this year. This huge event will see the UK’s biggest radio stars gather together at the First Direct Arena in Leeds. The star-studded evening boasts previous performers like Grammy-award winner Gregory Porter and BRIT-award winners, the Kaiser Chiefs.
Not only will The Covasettes have the opportunity to perform at the ARIAS, but their prize also includes the chance to record a track at Redwall Studios in Greater Manchester, as well as shoot a music video with Leeds-based creative agency, Harris.
Dave Stankler, one of the founders of Local Music Live said: “Congratulations to Chris, Jamie and the two Matts of The Covasettes. The guys are the perfect favourites for 2018 – they’re a great band with really catchy songs and I’m looking forward to seeing them on the big stage at the ARIAS in October. Of course, this would not be possible without the ongoing support of our sponsors, Howarth Timber and Building Supplies.”
Commenting on their continued support of Local Music Live, Howarth Timber’s marketing manager Gavin Knowles said: “We’re pleased to have been able to sponsor Local Music Live again this year, and to have played a part in providing The Covasettes, as well as the rest of this year’s entries, with a great platform for future success.
“The quality of this year’s acts meant that choosing the favourite was by no means an easy decision, but The Covasettes caught our attention straight away thanks to their catchy lyrics and anthemic sound. On behalf of Howarth Timber, I’d like to thank all of this year’s entrants, and congratulate The Covasettes on the start of what will no doubt be a successful music career.”
