Horse Guards Parade was a high profile, high energy and historic setting for one of the most popular Olympic sports, Beach Volleyball. A temporary seating bowl for 15,000 spectators was sited on the Parade Ground while other facilities were located in the adjacent St James’s Park and shared with events on The Mall.
The bowl has two distinct elements. The lower provided the high energy atmosphere appropriate for Beach Volleyball. The three-sided upper bowl allowed spectator and camera views to use the Grade I listed facade of Horse Guards Parade, and the London skyline, as a backdrop to the event.
