Hamilton Makes Wiring Connection With £500m MediaCityUK

Decorative electrical wiring accessories and lighting controls manufacturer Hamilton Litestat has supplied a range of its products into one of the UK’s most eagerly anticipated development projects – MediaCityUK.

The 36-acre MediaCityUK, which has been developed by Peel Media, is set to become an entire media community with residential and commercial spaces forming a ‘digital city’ on Salford Quays, once one of the country’s busiest dock systems. It will be home to the BBC’s northern operations as well as a host of other local and national media companies, creating a busy waterside media hub. The complex will also include eateries, retail space and a boutique Hotel. Peel Media has invested £500 million in phase one of the development, which is due to officially launch in 2011.

Hamilton’s Sheer range of wiring accessories was specified in a satin stainless steel finish with a white insert, and has been installed in one of the two major apartment complexes that form the 378 residential accommodation units within MediaCityUK. The Sheer products, which feature an ultra slim profile and contemporary styling, were supplied as two-way rocker switches, double sockets, double pole switches, TV, phone and data points and media plates, providing a stylish, entirely coordinated finish across the wiring accessories.

The expert team at Hamilton was also commissioned to design bespoke products for the development, with switch plates specially designed to host both light and fan boost functionality, and double pole switches for the cookers and ovens – all of which were individually engraved for easy identification.

“MediaCityUK is set to be a really vibrant, modern complex with contemporary but highly functional interior and exterior design,” commented Andrew Partington, UK sales and specification manager for Hamilton Litestat. “Our Sheer range is subtle, as it’s so slim it sits almost flush to the wall, yet the satin steel finish gives it a modern aesthetic that fits perfectly with the look the designers were looking to achieve in the apartments.”

“A key overarching theme of MediaCityUK is connectivity – especially digitally,” added a spokesperson for Peel Media. “The fact that Hamilton was able to provide a full range of wiring accessories including media plates that met the demands of all the latest communications technologies, whilst keeping a consistent stylish look and providing a bespoke design service where needed, was key in the decision to specify its products within the apartment complexes.”

The electrical wiring accessories order was placed via the Blackpool branch of Hirst and Danson Electrical Contractors Ltd.
