With an impressive portfolio of successful flooring installations within the healthcare sector, ARDEX UK, premium manufacturers of high performance flooring and tiling products, were pleased to work in partnership with flooring contractor Look North Flooring of South Shields, to provide underlayment’s for the new £30million Institute of Transplantation, at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle.
The new building is the UK’s first purpose built transplantation centre, built as a direct response to the government’s Organ Donation Taskforce recommendation to increase the number of organ donations by 50% by 2013. The institute contains four operating theatres equipped to undertake simultaneous organ transplants, critical care and general inpatient beds, outpatient facilities and a 100 seat lecture theatre and meeting rooms.
The project involved 7100m2 of flooring, which initially received an application of ARDEX DPM 1 C One Coat Surface Damp Proof Membrane. Developed for use as a single coat application, ARDEX DPM 1 C protects the floorcovering installation from residual construction moisture and ground water vapour. ARDEX DPM 1 C is easy to apply and fast curing, enabling the smoothing compound to be laid after as little as 6 hours.
The cured DPM then received ARDITEX RS PLUS, a latex levelling and smoothing compound which provided a smooth and flat surface, perfect for the final vinyl floorcovering. ARDITEX RS PLUS is part of the ARDITEX range of floor levelling and smoothing compounds that continue to offer the professional flooring contractor unique application and performance benefits that help to minimise installation risk.
