Family home in Notting Hill, London

18 Dec 2019
Case study

On a major arterial road in the busy hub of London, between Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill, sits Mr & Mrs Style’s family home.

Returning from time spent living in the US, to make the already family owned London property a permanent home, the family undertook extensive work to make it a more workable layout, having been previously utilised as a place to spend fleeting transatlantic visits.

“Beginning in late 2016, we renovated the house from scratch, embarking on a two-month project to turn it into a more family friendly home, removing walls and opening up the living areas” Mrs Style explained.

The property started out life as a coach house to the neighbouring residence, “it had its original windows and doors, all single glazed, which let in lots of noise and draughts, making it a cold and noisy place to spend time.”

Deciding that changing the windows and doors would be a crucial part of the renovation project, the couple undertook extensive research to track down the right products, as whilst the changes being made didn’t require any specific authority permissions, they were required to put in sash windows.

Authentic and sympathetically styled engineered timber sash windows in a dark painted finish, along with an attractive engineered timber front door were chosen to suit both the house and its setting.

“The new windows and doors have made a vast difference to our comfort, particularly in regards the road noise. When outside the house, you’re very aware of how much traffic passes our home, but now, when inside, we barely notice it at all; it’s a drastic improvement.”

“We’re also very glad to no longer have rattles and draughts, and the house feels much homelier as a result.”
