Eurofox provides support for innovative glass cladding at Tune hotel

3 Jun 2011
News
For the finishing touch of a new top floor in the UK’s first Tune hotel, architects specified an innovative opaque glass cladding system that can be produced in any RAL colour or with digital imagery. To hold the cladding securely in place a cladding support system from Eurofox Engineering was chosen.

Tune Hotels was founded by Tony Fernandes, who runs the low-cost airline Air Asia. There are Tune hotels all over Malaysia and Indonesia and whilst they don’t offer pools, spas, saunas or room service, you do get comfortable beds, power showers, central locations and round the clock security. London’s Tune Hotel features 75 rooms and 4 special needs rooms with costs from as little as £9 per night. It is the first of a planned 15 hotels being built across the UK over the next 5 years.

Designed by Architects Network, the new hotel at Westminster Bridge Road saw the conversion of a 1960s bank building. As part of the project, the building’s penthouse was demolished and a new timber structure built that extended to the front of the building’s footprint to provide additional space.

Case Study

Project: Tune Hotel
Location: London
Architect: Architects Network
Product: Chromatics RS

For the exterior of the new structure, Architects Network specified Chromatics RS, a glass cladding system from Cladding Solutions. This was held securely in place with Eurofox Engineering’s MTK (Structural Adhesive) rainscreen cladding system.

Eurofox Engineering’s MTK (Structural Adhesive) rainscreen cladding system offers a number of user benefits. Easy to specify and install, it has a proven track record and when used in conjunction with SikaTack Panel Adhesive from global building product manufacturer Sika, provides an efficient method of enabling the secret fix of rainscreen cladding.
The system is based around a vertically orientated MacFox bracket and rail system and represents a complete cladding support solution. Efficiently manufactured to project exact specifications, the supports are easily fixed to the substrate of a structure using pre-drilled holes, for ease of on-site application.

One part of Eurofox Engineering’s innovative range of cladding support systems, the MTK system is specifically designed for structurally bonded secret fix installations. At the Tune Hotel, SikaTack Panel Adhesive was applied to the Eurofox Engineering support system. Capable of bearing astonishing loads, this secret fix elastic bonding agent allows cladding panels to be attached to supports without the need for unsightly and costly mechanical fixings. This ensured the glass cladding at the Tune offered an uninterrupted and unspoilt appearance. With both the Eurofox Engineering and SikaTack Panel Adhesive systems having achieved BBA accreditation, the solution also provides additional peace of mind. All Eurofox Engineering systems have been designed with specification and buildability in mind. As part of its services, Eurofox Engineering provides a range of assistance to specifiers, from calculating the structural requirements of the frames and supports to providing highly detailed drawings of the optimum setup of the system. Now complete, the Tune Hotel is set to make its mark on London and thanks to its new glass rainscreen facade, held securely in place with the Eurofox Engineering systems, its new top floor will provide the shining glory.
