Estover Community Campus, Plymouth

24 Nov 2011
Case study

Many of the UK’s most significant building projects have benefited from Leaderflush Shapland’s range of innovative doorset solutions.

Sentinel, our revolutionary timber hand and finger protection solution, was specified for Estover Community Campus in Plymouth. Sentinel prevents fingers from getting into the hinge area of the door whilst being aesthetically pleasing, robust and cannot be easily damaged, complying with British Standards for accessibility.

Main contractor Kier's Dafydd Hollyman commented, "As Project Director, I was impressed by the quality of the workmanship and materials within the doorsets supplied by Leaderflush Shapland. It was also great to include some real innovation on this flag-ship scheme such as the use of the Sentinel finger trap protection doorset which made installation easy and has provided a neat solution in high risk areas of the campus".

The doorsets at Estover Community Campus also incorporated another Leaderflush Shapland innovation; EnduraCor - Leaderflush Shapland’s engineered performance doorset core whose durability and strength is especially suited to withstanding such harsh environments. Independent testing showed EnduraCor to be 100 times more durable than multi-layered chipboard cores and, as is manufactured using sustainable materials, it also contributes towards specifiers achieving an ‘excellent’ BREEAM rating when ordered as FSC.

Other innovations include Envision (pictured), an exclusive doorset facing material that enables the intricate detail of high definition, photographic images to be incorporated into factory assembled doorsets. Envision can transform any everyday feature into a unique focal point and was specified on the £33 million co-located Newfield and Talbot schools in Sheffield.

Further innovations include Hygienilac, an anti-microbial additive which reduces instances of cross contamination by killing harmful bacteria including C.diff, Salmonella and E.coli. Hygienilac is added to the wood lacquer as standard on all Leaderflush Shapland veneered doorsets and is incorporated throughout the complete 2mm thickness of the high impact PVC facing Hygieniform, which maintains its antibacterial properties even if the surface is scratched. Its durability and robust qualities make it ideal in healthcare and education environments where infection control is a major concern.

Leaderflush Shapland is the UK’s leading bespoke performance timber doorset manufacturer and is committed to creating pioneering new products such as Sentinel, Hygieniform and EnduraCor which offer extra benefits for the health, education and commercial sectors whilst still meeting the strictest performance criteria of fire resistance, sound reduction, smoke control, x-ray shielding and security, available in wide range of finishes suitable for almost any application.
