Engaging with the market during Fire Door Safety Week

14 Sep 2015
News

This week (14-18 September) is Fire Door Safety Week and our team is exhibiting at events around the country that are educating the market about the importance of fire door safety.

W.Howard is CERTIFIRE approved to manufacture MDF door linings and casing sets giving our customers the confidence that the product complies with the requirements of building regulations where a fire door is specified in a build. In the event of a fire within a building, the components of the door; the actual door, the door lining, the ironmongery and the intumescent seal are thereby ‘certified’ to ensure that the fire and smoke do not penetrate the room for on average, 30 minutes.

Our Certifire approved products are tested with a compliant door, ironmongery and intumescent seal, in a real fire test environment in a testing lab. This stringent test involves fitting the frame in a concrete block, opening and setting fire to one side of it and timing the integrity of the whole installation. Once fire or smoke penetrates to the other side, the test is complete. The lining needs to remain intact for more than 30 minutes to achieve the FD30 standard. In tests ours lasted 37 minutes.

The W.Howard Certifire approved linings and casings are available from Timber and Builders Merchants nationally. Please call us on 01942 881900 to enquire about your nearest stockist.
