Design to Installation at Prestigious 140 Fenchurch Street

28 Jul 2015
Case study

Glass Aftercare and Open Entrances have met the design intent of architect Ian Bogle with a dramatic, glazed entrance and facade for 140 Fenchurch Street, a Grade A office specification refurbishment. This high visibility project in the heart of London's insurance district demanded a solution that would blend seamlessly with the building's new contemporary reception, its stainless multi-faceted wall feature as well as providing excellent natural light and totally practicality for a high traffic area.

Externally, the new entrance needed to complement the building's street facing elevations and its precision engineered signature feature wall. This uses interlinked highly polished stainless steel convex panels and extends from the reception interior through the new entrance to wrap around the buiding's street elevation.

Open Entrances' fully customised solution includes two frameless, single glazed single doors which connect the reception area to the exterior. Extensive use is made of stainless steel feature panels around the entrance and also to link with the adjacent huge five metre wide window that provides high levels of natural light for the contemporary reception area. Creative feature lighting further enhances the impact of the entrance and the coherence of the design is completed by the concealed overhead Erreka automatic door operators and a new floating metal canopy above the complete installation.

The installation was carried out by Glass Aftercare whose extensive experience in projects of this type was essential. Working out of hours and within a busy commercial area, Glass Aftercare had all the necessary skill sets and expertise to undertake the installation of the oversized glass panel without difficulty and ensuring the faithful replication of Open Entrances' architectural vision which was key to meeting the specifier's design intent.
