Products in the award-winning Conservation Secure™ range by Mumford & Wood carry Secured by Design (SBD) accreditation. This is the UK police flagship initiative which aims to design-out crime and requires that products must meet challenging test criteria before they can carry SBD approval.
Joining an impressive collection of SBD approved Conservation Secure™ products, which includes casement windows, elegant French doorsets, single external doors and robust entrance doors, is the popular bi-folding door which has been tested to meet PAS24:2012 Enhanced Security. All these products meet Approved Document Q for Security in new homes enabling an improved high level of security.
“Aluminium needn’t be the first choice for large bi-folding doors,” says Owen Dare, technical director, Mumford & Wood Limited. “Timber offers greater aesthetics and we have the capacity to produce to a width of 5950mm wide and they are now available at up to 3m high.
“Our product designs are constantly under review to ensure they deliver the very highest levels of thermal and acoustic performance with outstanding levels of security. We also use engineered Siberian Larch which is 60% stronger than solid timber and offers a better strength to weight ration than any other frame material. With our continuous programme development we can be sure our products meet legislation and remain ahead of the market.”
Made-to-measure Conservation Secure™ bi-folding doors are designed with Brio operating gear and an open-out configuration is fitted to a top hung track system. Flush hinges are attractive and unobtrusive helping to preserve the style of these attractive doors. The maximum size of 3000mm high by 5950mm wide offers stunning aesthetic impact with maximised space and light while a maximum of seven leaves help to create a dramatic opening.
Manufactured entirely in Britain, Conservation Secure™ bi-folding doors are made from clear grade, engineered timber for maximum strength and stability. The standard specification features an ovolo sash profile, with or without glazing bars, with an option of lamb’s tongue and fine lamb’s tongue profiles to coordinate with Conservation™ window and doors. They are also available with a square profile to achieve a more contemporary style. Internal glazing improves both aesthetics and security. Factory-finished double glazed argon filled panels with low E coating can be exchanged for laminated or obscure glass with a choice of ironmongery including PVD coated polished brass and PVD black finishes, as well as satin and polished chrome. All Mumford & Wood glazed products, including SBD-approved bi-folding doors, are available with 12mm, 14mm or 24mm double glazed units.
Mumford & Wood’s Conservation™ timber windows and doors are manufactured to the British Woodworking Federation’s Wood Window Alliance criteria and, rated A+, are now recognised as a separate standard in BRE’s Green Guide to Specification contributing towards the essential materials credits of a buildings’ overall environmental impact. They carry the BSI Kitemark and are Energy Saving Trust listed.
