News

Clement Windows Group has been a steel fenestration supplier to the Hampstead Garden Suburb in North London for a number of years and has recently manufactured and installed new steel windows and doors from the Brooking range at a number of the properties in the area. Visit our residential case studies page to read more.

Hampstead Garden Suburb is internationally recognised as one of the finest examples of early 20th century domestic architecture and town planning. Conceived by Henrietta Barnett as a model community of beautiful houses set in a verdant landscape, the properties in the Suburb were designed by some of the best architects of the day.

The Suburb today comprises around 5,000 properties in total and is home to some 16,000 people. In 1968, it was designated as a Conservation Area and the Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust was set up to maintain the character and amenity of properties within the Suburb. The Trust operates a management scheme which requires freeholders to get prior approval before altering the external appearance of their properties. This means that the Suburb today survives relatively intact and still reflects the original vision of Barnett and master planner Raymond Unwin.

A lot of the properties in the Suburb have original steel framed windows and the Trust stipulates that replacement windows must be very similar to the originals. The Clement Brooking range of steel windows was developed in conjunction with The Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust and other conservation bodies and takes its name from internationally renowned collector and architectural historian, Charles Brooking. The range is particularly suitable for high value refurbishment projects or specialist architectural situations where a particular ‘putty fronted’ system is required.

Clement Windows Group specialises in replacing existing heritage steel windows, thereby enabling homeowners to preserve the original character of their properties. There are a number of different ranges available. Visit our windows product page for more information or contact us to speak to a member of the team.
