Brick Tinting Offers Remedial Solution for Mismatched Elevations

28 Mar 2017
Case study

80 Clerkenwell Road presented a unique opportunity to refurbish an existing former warehouse and office building.

Situated in a prime central London location within the Clerkenwell Green Conservation Area, the multi million pound development provides two floors of new flexible retail space at ground and lower ground levels, with four floors of office accommodation above, which includes a brand new upper floor, with rear and rooftop mansard extensions.

Our imperial-sized Reclamation Yellow Stock bricks were selected for the extension areas as they provided a suitable match for the size and texture of the existing Victorian elevations, but on completion of construction the new brickwork contrasted against the extremely sooted facades of the building.

To overcome this problem, we were able to tint the new brickwork on site to provide an exact match, allowing the extended areas to become indistinguishable.

The images show the project during its various phases of construction, including the new brick of the extended elevations and during the tinting process.
